I threw out this idea in the yahoo thread, but wanted to see how much interst there is out there. Right now I will only put up the basics for the draft, because I have a few different ideas for the waiver wire that could work. I will do my best to explain, but I know that at times I am not the best at explaning, so feel free to ask any questions. Here are the basic rules
The draft starts out like a normal auction draft, amount of tokens and minium bid can be deceided once we get a league together. The auction draft would be for your starting spots only, and once you are out of starting spots, you must wait till the reserve round to pick another player(ex you have 3 OF's, you cant take a 4th until the reserve round) The reserve round would just be a normal snake draft. The key difference is that you can choes before the season starts, if you want to extend your player for a second year, or 3rd year at the price you paid for him. Once a players contract is up, you get the right to match the high bid for him in the auction(say Ryan Zimmerman is bid up to $10, the person who has the matching rights to Zim would be able to pay $10 to keep him). There is no way other than trade to get out of a contact, if you cut the player you still have to pay them. That should take care of the basics, and once we get enough people to start a league, we can hammer out the details. Thanks for reading!

I would have an interest in it.
A single-league league seems like it would cause you to have to look into the depth of most rosters to win.

Why not?
Well, maybe because while I’ve played deep and i’ve played competitive leagues, I’ve never done NL-only, so I probably won’t be so hot, but whatever, I’m in.
Weird keeper idea, but again, why not?
What I do want to know is if you’d be up for a saber-points scoring system. It just drives me nuts that steals count as much as homers, pitcher wins, etc., and adds a new wrinkle so that’s fun. I currently play in a wonderful-such league (including Brad Johnson, a great writer at The Hardball Times) and could give the details on the scoring if interested.
Oh, and what keeper rules? I’m in one where you have to pay $7 over the previous year ($310 budget for 28 slots), for example.
Other than that, come on everyone else, risk it! Deep leagues are way more fun.

I wouldnt really want to do an all SABER league
but, maybe after the first year and the rules are more set in stone we could add in some different stats to give it more balance. I know nothing about advanced stats so I dont know what you could add in. Maybe add like FIP instead of wins or something. Again in am mostly open to anything, the crazier the better. The only problem I can see with the keeper system is everyone would be basicly stuck with their team for 3 years till more rookies come up, and all the good players arent on the same 3 year cycle. Maybe start out with limiting each team to like 5 3 year extensions. Guys that go to the AL go of your roster, which makes the MLB trade deadline more intresting. I would say we need at least 10 teams for the league. I will update the first post with who has interest, once we get close I will look for where to host it.

it doesn't use fip and all of that
it just gives points, so 6 for a single, 8 for a double, 10 for a triple, 14 for a homer, 4 for a walk, 2 for a stolen base (but -3 for caught stealing) which isn’t any statistical smoke and mirrors as some would worry with saberist stuff. Likewise, pitching is +10 for each IP but then equally minus for all of the above. Wins are terrible, saves as equal to anything else is bad, ERA is flawed, etc. What this does is value what really happens, but without anything controversial like WAR or FIP or any of that, because it’s a fact: walks are valuable but not included in 5×5, steals help but not much and CS hurts more than they help, singles are good but each extra base is better. It is all around a better system.

chubias - February 13, 2012
But I'll need a more complete list of rules, cause I haven't done an auction draft or most of this other stuff.
chubias - February 13, 2012
Dont worry, I will get a complete list of rules typed up once I see what options I have at places like Yahoo, and ESPN
jeff550 - February 14, 2012
wow, 1B is thin in the NL
William.Hatheway - February 14, 2012
can this guy play?
hey guys, so i know i’ve never posted anything before, but I’ve been reading the site daily since about midseason last year. This is probably going to offend some of you, but I THINK THE SIGHT IS AWESOME AND SO ARE YOU GUYS. Anyway, I’ve been looking to play some fantasy baseball this year, and if there’s any room left it would be awesome to play with the Federal Baseball guys.
MOARse - February 15, 2012
Your in
think we need 3 more people before we can start, have room for 5 more
jeff550 - February 15, 2012
aaand now that i’ve got the courage up to post i guess i’ll throw my 1 1/2 cents in every once and awhile
MOARse - February 15, 2012
I hope so.
The more the merrier!
RobBobS - February 15, 2012
definitely want more interested voices
Oh, when you say just 3 more needed, do you really want to have just 8? I thought the fun of NL-only was having a deep league…
William.Hatheway - February 16, 2012
I want 12, will settle with 10
we have 5 plus MOARse and chubias which makes 7
jeff550 - February 16, 2012
I am interested and am active, let me know whenever you are looking to finalize this.
Thanks
Fakey51 - February 17, 2012
I'll jump aboard too
You had me at NL only. Never been in a league like that before, sounds pretty fun to me
ZimforPrez - February 17, 2012
Alright, now 1 away from getting enough teams, I will start trying to get some rules together
Once I get the league up I will start emailing invites, let me know if your profile email is not the email you would like to use. Thanks!
jeff550 - February 17, 2012
I'm on gmail with my handle here.
chubias - February 21, 2012
Sorry I'm going to have to back out
I really want to try NL only but I’m in too many redraft leagues that I’ve already been a part of and I really shouldn’t add another time-wise so sorry that you’ll need to get two still… good luck though!
William.Hatheway - February 18, 2012
