• We ran a few Federal Baseball Fantasy Leagues through Yahoo!Sports.com last season, I really don't remember who won the one I participated in... hmm? Nope, can't remember, but it was great. I'm sure we'll be doing the same this year [Wink, Hey Dave!] Though I don't remember who won our league, I do, however, remember our friend bluelineswinger doing the single greatest post-fantasy draft write-up in fantasy baseball history. Seriously, it's worth joining a league this year just to see what he thinks of your drafting if he does it again. But, what was wrong with my 7th Round pick of Gaby Sanchez? The Fish 1B had a .266/.352/.427 slash last season with 35 doubles and 19 HR's! Alright, maybe I took him too early, but I panicked when first basemen were flying off the list... What follows is some copy promoting the opening of Yahoo! Sports.com Fantasy Baseball '12 season. Read on if you want some information and mayhap we can start discussing setting up this season's Federal Baseball Fantasy Leagues, or wait a little while for the next story to appear in the space if you're not interested. from the league-that-bluelineswinger-analyzed.
dc Roach - February 6, 2012

FanSince05 - February 6, 2012
I want in
Haven’t posted here much/ever, but I’m gonna start this season.
heatpop - February 6, 2012
Thanks for speaking up and joining the conversation. Hopefully we'll get these organized in the next few weeks.
Patrick Reddington - February 6, 2012
Sounds good
I’m a big Nats fan and read SBNation a ton, so I figure I might as well post here too
heatpop - February 6, 2012
the more voices/opinions the better. thanks.
Patrick Reddington - February 6, 2012
I'd like to join as well.
Rabid - February 11, 2012

New But In
New member and might be one of the youngest members, but ready to try out my skills against people who actually understand baseball, Too many years I’ve played in leagues against people who drop out by the third week
Mr.Popout - February 6, 2012
wait, we're supposed to understand baseball?
I just assumed it was all luck.. like when drafting Lance Berkman in the 21st round panned out big time for me..
dc Roach - February 6, 2012
Thinking about picking up Matt Stairs in the third round…….
Mr.Popout - February 6, 2012
I picked Podsednik in the 20th.. he wasn’t even in the majors on opening day…
dc Roach - February 6, 2012
Every year in our hockey fantasy league one team ends up getting contracted...
When someone bails out. Always leads to fights and complaints, hope it doesn’t happen in these leagues. Everyone stuck with it last year from what I remember. Thanks for the interest.
Patrick Reddington - February 6, 2012
Don't worry, last year I won the HTH and was only 19 years old.
FanSince05 - February 6, 2012
Dont Feel so young
Nice to see other Under 21’ers on Federal Baseball
Mr.Popout - February 6, 2012
Don't feel bad later if you miss a bunch of 70's and 80's references.
They are popular around here.
RobBobS - February 6, 2012
Where's the Beef?
Patrick Reddington - February 6, 2012
I've fallen and I can't get up !!!
I wish I could play guys and gals. I just know I’d be that one person to bail and I’d rather be lame for not doing instead of lame for saying I’m doing and than backing out later. Good luck everyone!!!
Berndaddy - February 6, 2012
1-1 on references before i was born
Mr.Popout - February 6, 2012
2-2 Im on a Roll
Mr.Popout - February 6, 2012
I'm playing against two major contributers to The Hardball Times fantasy pages for money
which means I’m an idiot… but I’m doing it for just what you implied, that playing against guys who know something/care makes it so much more fun.

rankings
Folks,
over at Fake Teams, we have ranked players by position for mixed leagues, AL-only, NL-only and H2H Points leagues, and are currently working on some draft strategy articles, so check out all we have to offer this season.
We will be updating our overall position rankings in the next week or so.
Just today, we merged with Roto Hardball, so we will be providing more fantasy baseball coverage than ever before.
Ray Guilfoyle - February 6, 2012
Nice, thanks for the note, Ray.
Patrick Reddington - February 6, 2012
im out
yahoo fantasy is one of like 3 sites blocked at work and no roster changes in the evening. that and my complete lack of success in every year/sport ive ever tried……
TJL - February 6, 2012
What the heck Patrick? Don't even mention my HTH Championship.. aha
Bernadina’s Sharks will be back to defend their championship this year and will be on the hunt for back to back championships.
Here’s the link to last years HTH league btw.

Bsullivan - February 6, 2012
+! NPUT...
Patrick Reddington - February 6, 2012
If the league were on espn.com, I would join.
GetThatCurlyW - February 6, 2012
I'm totally in
email is whatheway@nvcc.edu. Any chance for any of the following (especially the first since I suck at snake drafting but am decent at auctions): auction draft league, keeper league, prize/fee league? The 2nd request is because it keeps people invested even if they falter in a given season (especially if you penalize a last place finish, like one of the leagues I’m in), and the last because it makes people even more invested. But really, I would most want the option to auction, because it is just way way more fun and strategic, imho.
William.Hatheway - February 6, 2012
you just want to force people to think and stuff like that.. evil.
dc Roach - February 6, 2012
I once shaved my head save for "horns" I dyed red
so maybe there’s something to that evil business…
William.Hatheway - February 6, 2012
I would love to give an auction league a try. I would be more than willing to set up an auction league through Yahoo. Would perfer NL only, but would be open to all MLB. You could also do like a auction/keeper where you can chose to give your guy 1, 2, or 3 years at the time of the draft at his price, and you get matching rights when the contract is up.
jeff550 - February 6, 2012
Interesting
never heard of that type of keeper-system… I’ve done snakes with adding two draft rounds and auctions adding $7, but never what you mentioned.
William.Hatheway - February 7, 2012
I am in for another head to head league
I need to avenge my Phillies-like failure in the playoffs last year.
The Herndon Kid - February 6, 2012 via mobile
I am as well.
I just looked at the archive that Fansince05 posted, and it was a 2vs7 matchup when he upset me last year.
Doncosmic - February 6, 2012
Count me in as well for a head to head
That was about my speed last year, and I have to make up for last year’s pathetic finish. Unlike the Nats, Gio Gonzalez was not the final piece necessary for a playoff push.
souldrummer - February 6, 2012
My hoarding of Strasburg on DL turned out to be just as effective.
The Herndon Kid - February 7, 2012 via mobile
One other option idea
I’m in a really really fun SABR league that uses points to more accurately reflect “real baseball” value (e.g. steals hardly count as importantly as HRs, and you actually lose more value if you get CS, and pitcher wins don’t matter). The numbers are taken from Tom Tango, the smartest saberist out there. Anyway, anyone interested in that?
William.Hatheway - February 6, 2012
I'm In......
Prefer Rotisserie, but will play either. Just one request though……whoever sets it up, don’t have such large rosters, especially if we have lots of teams in each league; make it more in-tune with the Yahoo public leagues, or a close variation. The Rotisserie league last year had huge rosters that left no one in the bone-yard to pick up….rosters were too large. For example…..two catchers on each team is too many for fantasy baseball, when you have over 10 teams. Once everyone had drafted, there were no worthy players at all left in the FA field, and that takes some fun out of maneuvering players around. It also hurts if there is an injury, because there are NO alternatives to be picked up. Also, be creative with the stats used….don’t just use Saves for RPs……also use Holds. Makes the managers choose what is more important, if he/she wants to be really strong in one or the other category, or to simply try and just be competitive in each. Just thoughts, since I have been the commish in a couple of these in the past.
