Swing and a Miss - He Struck Him Out! ... Stephen Strasburg

Stephen Strasburg stands 6' 4'' and weighs in at 220 lbs. His true stature, though, is much greater than that. At the tender age of twenty three years old, he has already greatly impressed those of us who love the game of baseball. His short lived career stats are impressive: 2.54 era, 92 ip, 116 k, 19 bb, 0.98 whip. I believe that these stats are but a taste of what we will come to realize as his career unfolds.

There are several reasons for his incredible strikeout to walks ratio & his substantially better than a strikeout per inning pitched; not to mention the 0.98 whip. His character makeup is one of confidence and yet humble. He loves this game that his maternal grandmother helped him develop. Strasburg has great command of four pitches. His repertoire includes a curveball/slider, a circle-changeup, a two seam fastball, and a four seam fastball. He can throw his fastball 100 miles per hour and his two seamer runs in on righthanded hitters - very nasty.

Stephen Strasburg has shown that he is immune to high pressure situation's. In his Major League debut, '' the most hyped pitching debut the game has ever seen, '' he secured the win allowing 2 earned runs in 7 innings pitched w/ 14 k's & no walks. With Tommy John surgery now behind him, I believe that he will now assert himself as one of the great pitchers over the next ten years. In Stephen Strasburg, we get to watch another potential future HOF pitcher. Swing and a miss - He struck him out! ...

Unti next time, so long everybody ...

Well said Cowboy!

It’s embarrassing that nobody from Federal Baseball has yet to respond to this tip of the Stetson from a Cardinal fan… come on people!

Anyway, here’s to hoping that Adam Wainwright is fully recovered from TJ and, to the delight of baseball fans everywhere, both he and Stras stay healthy for the remainder of their careers.

A Tip of my Stetson ...

Thank you ,,, A tip of my Stetson as well to Ryan Zimmerman. He is a great hitter & a great glove man when healthy! / Additionally, I suspicion that Wilson Ramos is going to be a very good backstop …

Most Memorable Pitch.....

Fellow fans, help me with this one….Strasburg was pitching, I think it was against the Reds. The batter, I think was Orlando Cabrera (?), dove to the ground thinking that he was going to be drilled by a Strasburg pitch. The pitch, however, curved back across the plate for a STRIKE. The batter simply looked silly, and was just as funny as watching Dan Uggla screw himself into the ground with a 60mph pitch from Livo last season. Anyway….that one pitch illustrates how nasty Strasburg actually is on that mound. I do not recall the batter ever being interviewed, however, one of the Nats own players (maybe Lannan?) once said that Strasburg’s pitches actually appear that they are gonna take your head off, before they swing back over the plate (don’t recall the actual phrasing). If anyone has better details….please share!

Pitch FX tells a lot about how nasty his change is, generally speaking.

I can’t think of a particular occasion, but I looked it up after one game when it just seemed to plummet, and it turns out it basically can: in the last 45 feet, it drops up to TWO FEET. That is insane, especially considering how many other plus (plus) pitches he has in his arsenal…

Especially considering that his change is going 88-91 MPH when it drops like that and has the same arm motion as his fastball.

So hitters basically has to start swinging when it leaves his hand and have no chance to stop when it is in the dirt.

He really has "video game stuff"

The type of thing that the rest of us only get with an Xbox or PS3

Found That Cabrera Link

The Washington Post has it……Strasburg made Cabrera look silly

I looked last night, but got distracted with all the other Strasburg highlights....
That's What I'm Talkin' About!!!

I cannot wait to watch him in 2012!!
